Airport/flying advice:
- If your flight is already boarding push in front of any queue you encounter to ensure you get on the flight
- If you suffer from nausea or any form of motion sickness take ginger biscuits, ginger pills (found at Dischem) or even raw ginger left over from the night before's sushi before and during a flight.
- When traveling with your better half, family or a friend rather split your luggage evenly between two bags. Therefore if one bag gets lost/stolen you will still be able to enjoy the trip with the clothing you have left in the other bag.
- Book international tickets 3-5 months in advance, as this is when they should be the cheapest.
- When planning an overseas trip sign up for email alerts on an airline compare website. Be aware of what tickets normally cost and try and buy any good deals as soon as you can. (FareCompare is great)
- Shop for your airline tickets during the week as it has been proven that they are more expensive on the weekend.
- Use www.airfarewatchdog.com to try and find a good deal on airline tickets
Tourist attractions advice:
- Visit very busy tourist attractions during the week or if you have to go on a weekend try and do it when it is cool and overcast
- Use TripAdvisor to plan your outing. Read reviews to get good tips.
- If you know you want to take creative/interesting photos try look up a few hashtags related to that attraction and see what could work well.
Accommodation advice:
- The most important tip: Ask if the rooms have inter-leading doors. If they do rather choose a more expensive option (it will be worth it) or look for something else. Having a screaming baby or even just a loud TV next door could keep you up all night and wake you up far earlier than you anticipated.
- Use TripAdvisor! Start from the top rated accommodation and work your way down until you find something within your price range but better than similar accommodation.
- Make a list of exactly what you need/want (internet, DSTV, packed breakfast etc.). When booking phone and find out if they offer everything you are looking for.
- If you enjoy watching series instead of DSTV take an HDMI cable along as almost all places have TVs with HDMI ports.
- While a view of the pool is nice remember the closer you are the more noise you will hear (not ideal for an afternoon nap).
